About Me
Hello! I’m Emma Webster, an artist and printmaker based in Toronto. Ever since I can remember creativity has been my driving force, guiding me through the many different facets of life.
I graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts from York University in 2022, where I developed my artistic practice and discovered a love of printmaking. My time there was a whirlwind of inspiration, learning, and growth, shaping me into the artist I am today.
I believe art is a conversation, a bridge between emotions and interpretations, and I strive to create pieces that spark connection and introspection.
I'm captivated by the intricate dance between traditional and modern imagery. Through merging classic techniques with contemporary themes and iconography—a unique narrative that echoes both past and present is created, blending nostalgia with a fresh, forward-looking perspective.
One of the defining aspects of my work is the bold and vibrant colour palette I employ. Colours, for me, have the power to evoke feelings, provoke thoughts, and create an immersive experience. I utilize a rich spectrum of hues, from striking primaries to nuanced shades, infusing my pieces with an intense vibrancy that demands attention and sparks intrigue.
Each colour choice is deliberate—a deliberate interplay of tones and contrasts that heighten the visual impact of my art. It's not just about the colours themselves; it's about the emotions they evoke and the stories they tell when they converge on the canvas, intertwining with the imagery borne from tradition and modernity.
By weaving together the time-honoured techniques of printmaking, embroidery, and oil painting with a bold, contemporary colour palette, my art aims to bridge the gap between generations, and perspectives. My work invites viewers to explore the familiar and the unfamiliar in a kaleidoscope of vibrant expressions.
